Disaster Recovery & Prevention Programs

In 2009, the Iowa Legislature appropriated $165 million for programs aimed at helping Iowa communities, counties and non-profit organizations recover from the devastating natural disasters of 2008 and build critical infrastructure to prevent future disasters. Of the total, $118.5 million was available for competitive grants, called the Local Infrastructure Grant Program. An additional $46.5 million was reserved for 2009 Targeted Disaster Rebuilding Projects. All of these funds are committed.

On April 26, 2010, Governor Chet Culver signed an extention of the I-JOBS legislation, including $30 million to create the Disaster Prevention Grant Program and $30.9 million for 2010 Targeted Disaster Rebuilding Projects. These initatives are commonly referred to as I-JOBS II.

The I-JOBS Board of Directors administers each Disaster Recovery & Prevention program and oversee the Targeted Disaster Rebuilding Projects. The Iowa Finance Authority Provides staff support.
